If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian. ~Paul McCartney

So this is actually my first OFFICIAL blog, now that I know that what I write here will actually show up on my "blogpage" or whatever you call it.
Before I talk about anything else I would like to address the comment on my previous blog about Charlestown boys just in case anyone is thinking, 'well, doesn't she have a boyfriend, and she spelled Charleston wrong.' I was talking about the movie The Town, because I think it's awesome, and I attribute little or none of that awesomeness to the women in the movie. So, there.

This blog is not going to have a theme (unless one develops naturally), it is just going to be me and my version of the human experience, and I will be as honest as I can be without offending everyone I know.

So, here we go . . .

I have decided that I am going to be a vegetarian. I am 100% against the inhumane treatment of animals, and I really need to be living my life in a manor that reflects my beliefs. Tomorrow will be day 1 of the vegetarian experiment. Today is not day 1 because I had leftover pizza for lunch and it had pepperoni and sausage on it.

Also, I am all about quotes, and I feel that the quote that really describes this endeavor is "You must do the thing you think you can not do." I think that Eleanor Roosevelt said this. It is on my facebook page, with the correct attribution, in case anyone cares to check on that.

I have wanted to be a vegetarian ever since I saw a PETA video and realized that the meat that I have been (thoroughly) enjoying all of my life has been "harvested" from animals in the most disgusting, filthy, inhumane way. Despite this knowledge, I have continued to eat meat because (1) meat tastes delicious, (2) all of my friends and family eat meat, and (3) vegetarian food has not been very accessible to me.
But today I went on the PETA website, and I was reading about the intelligence of chickens, pigs, and cows, and about how they skin and cut up these animals while they are still alive (they feel it all !!!) and I just said to myself that I have to stop eating meat.

Because what if I never stopped, and when I died god asked me "why did you continue to eat meat when you knew the animals were being tortured?" What would I say? "Well god, it was convenient and also tasted good."

So I am embarking on the vegetarian journey (I hope to one day be vegan, but I don't want to make this too hard too soon).

I do have one question, though. Can fish feel pain? I need to know because if they do than I will also have to not eat fish.
I am going to make some white bean (no meat) chili for dinner, so I am signing off.

  1. PS - I am blogging under an alias because I do not want one of my coworkers to see this and say oh, hey! (insert name here) hates her job! So, we can fire her and then she won't have a job to hate!

  2. I feel ya. Let me know how it goes. When I was a veg, I loved the food but when I got preggers with Jon I started CRAVING RED MEAT. When to the midwife for a checkup and discovered that I was anemic. Be sure your B vitamins and iron needs are satisfied in your diet.
Aligning your beliefs and your actions equals integrity. Great way to live. I love you!
